Community Well-Being

Creation of a multi-year traffic calming plan to direct my annual Temporary Traffic Calming budget. Following five community consultation sessions and a survey, speed hump installations were initiated on Tawney, Joliffe, Blossom, Weston, Cavendish and will be installed shortly on Virigina and Ryder. Measures such as speed boards have also been installed
Organized three town halls on community safety and a fraud prevention seminar to give residents an opportunity to speak to Ottawa Police Service, OC Transpo and other community partners regarding community safety
Regular promotion of small businesses on social media and newsletter, as well as meeting with business owners and organizing events that support local artists (e.g. Made in Alta Vista Market, Music in the Park)

Inclusive and Accessible Services

Passed a motion to eliminate use of community centres as shelters which led to the development of the Transition to Housing Strategy, allowing for the purchase of purpose-built buildings for transitional housing and for our community to reclaim its community centres
Ongoing advocacy for Para Transpo equity that has led to greater equity for seniors using ParaTranspo compared to what is offered on OC Transpo
Securing funding for accessible ramps for private businesses to increase accessibility across Ottawa
Moved a motion to review the Social Housing Registry to ensure streamlined operations and to ensure most vulnerable are being housed in a timely manner
Oversaw park improvements in Sandalwood Park, Riverview Park, Coronation Park, and Andrea Thomson Park that included accessible components and sought funding from an external partner for a basketball court at Alda Burt Park

Creating a Sustainable Community

Worked to ensure support for an improved process and insurance for community groups undertaking stewardship activities on public lands, including removal of invasive species
Moved a motion on Community Gardens that led to the redevelopment of the program to allow for more gardens on city lands (including in our ward) and for the backlog of applications to be addressed
Passed a motion for development of a feasibility strategy for a Municipal Food Strategy to support the local economy and food security
Organized and hosted the first Repair Café in the ward at Jim Durrell, which has now become an annual City-run event
After the August 10, 2023 flooding, put forward a motion to reform how floods are reported and tracked, and to overhaul the Residential Protective Plumbing Program.
Worked with staff to accelerate infrastructure projects including those most vulnerable to flooding including Delmar Drive. Also worked to accelerate repairs to Alta Vista Drive sidewalks and sought funding for the repaving of the most damaged portion in 2027, ahead of the Alta Vista Drive Integrated Project timeline
Supported budgets that saw an increase of 44% in infrastructure funding over the previous term of council and an increase in the Ward

Engagement

Established strong partnerships with organizations across Ottawa and in the ward, including the Perley, Ottawa Food Bank, Matthew House, Ellwood House and many others
Produced a weekly newsletter throughout my entire term that provided information on engagement activities, development, infrastructure, proposed policy changes and other issues of community interest.
Organized town halls, community meetings, coffee chats, office hours as well as visiting residents at their homes to ensure broad engagement with residents
Organized events in the community such as Music in the Park and the Made in Alta Vista Market, and supported community events hosted by community associations, including the Alta Vista Farmers’ Market

Accountability and Transparency

Served as a member of the Service Review Working Group with the Mayor and Councillor Curry that has contributed to approximately $252.7 million in savings over this term of Council
Moved a motion that led to all business-related travel for the City’s Extended Senior Leadership Team be disclosed on Ottawa.ca on a quarterly basis effective January 1, 2024.
Moved a motion to review the Major and Minor Capital Programs to ensure the program is equitable for all communities
As a member of the Police Board, put forward a Motion to ask the City of Ottawa’s Auditor General to audit Ottawa Police Service, which led to an audit of Staffing and an audit of Project Management, as well as a forthcoming audit.

Community Well-Being

Work with community associations and other stakeholder groups to develop a resiliency plan so that residents have resources in case of climate event (e.g. derecho, severe flooding)
Develop a four-year traffic plan to use Temporary Traffic Calming Budget
Work on a funding solution to accelerate funding for pedestrian crossover implementation

Inclusive and Accessible Services

Work with Community Associations and a plan to assess the existing legacy fieldhouses and make plans to redevelop at least one
Ensure 1245 Kilborn has housing and services that respond to community needs, including examining the potential for long-term care beds
Improve services and programming for both seniors and youth in the Ward

Creating a Sustainable Community

Ensure progress on Solid Waste master plan to support greater waste diversion for additional items including furniture and promote community events that support diversion
Work with city staff and community associations to improve stewardship and maintenance of parks and greenspaces including better options for waste
Increased funding for road renewals and active transportation improvements

Engagement

Commitment to continued community engagement through town halls, coffee chats, open office hours, weekly newsletters and tailored content in the community newspapers
Continued engagement with federal government on key projects impacting our community including ALTO, Build Canada Homes, and disposal of NCC lands
Organization of community events in parks, including events that support our local artists

Accountability and Transparency

Advocate for improved funding models for parks and recreation to renew and refresh our parks
Continue to participate as a member of Service Review Working Group and Audit Committee to ensure proper stewardship of city funds
Champion reduced duplication of city programs, including for traffic calming programs and improvements to 311 so issues can be better tracked and addressed

About Me

After more than two decades in the federal public service, including four years at the executive level, I brought my experience to City Council after serving as President of the Alta Vista Community Association.

Before being elected in 2022, I helped lead projects including the Alta Vista Farmers’ Market and the replacement of the kindergarten yard at Alta Vista Public School. I have also served on school councils, the Heron Gate Steering Committee, and a range of municipal and community boards.

I live in Alta Vista with my husband, Christian McPherson, our children Molly and Henry, and our three dogs. I am bilingual in French and English and hold a Master of Arts in Linguistics from Université Laval.
